![]() “But, at times, you feel like you could run.” He smiles a big grin. “Once I’m up there, it’s OK,” he says of this pre-sermon energy. So he eats carefully Sundays, nothing heavy, nothing spicy. The adrenaline is there every Sunday, before every service. ![]() ![]() He stretches a bit, crosses his arms, then puts his hands in his back pockets. The atmosphere is half worship, half rock concert, with people swaying to the music or raising their hands in praise. ![]() The production values alone are flawless, with staff on cameras, lighting, video displays, soundboards and in a control room, where a team produces the day’s service. Today, though, he moves to the back of the auditorium as the band begins. He often takes 7-year-old daughter Michaela to Treasure Island, the children’s ministry. After this alone time, he may pray with the band and production team in the Green Room, where those who are gathered look more like a college study group than the staff of a prominent church. “I try to remember there’s not much of a difference between 1,000 people and 1,005 people – unless you’re one of those five,” he says. There will be people in these seats hurting, and they’re looking for answers.” Ashcraft does this to remind himself that although the church has experienced a near meteoric rise from a handful of college students at its first service in 1999, when he was only 28 years old himself, to an astounding 4,800 (and still growing) congregation, these are people, not numbers. He breathed deep and thought, “Today, there may be someone sitting here who’s lost a job. Though he’s a mass of high energy now, about an hour ago Ashcraft sat in the empty auditorium, just as he does every Sunday before the 8:30 service. He brushes his teeth a second time this morning (“Coffee breath,” he says), touches base with his mother-in-law/scheduler Brenda and chats briefly with staff. While people pool into the 1,500-seat auditorium, drop children off in the youth areas or congregate with coffee and friends in the church hall, Ashcraft moves with bundled tension. I did install the muzzy fan in hopes this would help solve the problem, but I am aggravated and tired of putting band aids on the bike, I want it fixed right so this doesn't happen again. In the moments before he’s scheduled to take the stage in front of a sanctuary overflowing with devoted followers, a noticeably anxious Mike Ashcraft is moving in fast-forward in the offices of Port City Community Church. OK so here's my deal, I recently took the engine out of my 07 busa to have 2nd gear undercut as it was starting to pop out of gear, as many Suzuki's do, after the engine was reinstalled on the bike, after start up the engine would heat up during idling, reaching half way the fan would kick on then kick off, the temp would rise and the fan would continue to kick on but not cool it down enough, I would never let the engine get above 3/4 on the temp gauge, I burped the system several times, started & ran to operating temperature, shut down, removed cap, topped off fluid, leaned over left as far as I could watch with the cap off to watch for bubbles, after the 4th time on this I didn't see anymore bubbles, so I capped the radiator, filled the overflow exactly between the low & full marks, I then started the bike and let it idle, the bike ran fine, no smoke from the exhaust, fan cycled half a dozen times and temps never went above half way, I assumed the problem was solved, so I turn it off and install the lowers back on it, get everything back together and next day while I'm detailing it I started it only to have it start to go warm again, needle gets to about 3/4 the way up and the overflow starts to fill up with coolant from the radiator I suppose, I am clueless on what to do here, with the lowers off the bike does great and isn't giving me any problems, the bike only has 9800 miles on it with a hindle full exhaust and pc3 with a mild tune and running premium fuel, I never had this problem until after the engine was back from my engine guy, any ideas? I know there were blue shop towels in some of the engine holes when I sent it to him but I assume they were all removed before reinstall of the engine.
